Can the oil company that has my lease sell it to another without my permission?
Yes, your oil lease can be sold to another company, unless you have language in the lease which specifically limits their ability to do so. Typically, this language only requires that they provide you notification before doing so but you can insert any requirement that you and they agree to.
The company taking possession of the lease will have the exact same obligations and requirements that their predecessor had and are subject to the same terms provided for in the lease.
I have even inserted language in leases that limit which companies they can assign the lease to since I’ve personally had some that I refuse to do business with due to past transgressions on their part.
