The Division of Oil & Gas, within the Department of Natural Resources, administers Indiana’s oil and gas statutes which regulates oil and gas exploration and production in the state including: well spacing, exploration, permitting, drilling, completion, production, and abandonment operations, underground injection of fluids, and the underground storage of natural gas or other petroleum products in underground formations.
Their mission is to:
(1) Prevent waste
(2) Encourage the greatest recovery of oil and gas
(3) Protect the correlative rights of owners
(4) Protect human health and safety
(5) Protect the environment
