Oil and gas exploration and production in Kentucky is regulated by the Division of Oil and Gas within the Department of Natural Resources.
Their mission is to regulate the crude oil and natural gas industry in the state; protect the correlative rights of mineral owners, fresh water zones and minable coal seams; and conserve and protect oil and gas reserves in the state.
Another good reference is the Kentucky Oil and Gas Association website:
Kentucky Oil & Gas Association
Formed in 1931 to represent the interests of Kentucky’s crude oil and natural gas industry with particular emphasis on the independent crude oil and natural gas producers.
Their stated goal is to promote, protect and advance the interests of the oil and gas industry, to oppose any unfair and unjust legislation which might adversely affect the oil and gas industry; and, to disseminate reliable publicity to further and protect the oil and gas industry.
