MICHIGAN

The Office of Oil Gas and Minerals (OOGM) within the Department of Environmental Quality was established to promote the best use of Michigan’s non-renewable geological resources for their social and economic benefits while protecting associated resource values, property rights, the environment, and public health and safety.

The Office monitors and regulates oil and gas drilling operations, brine disposal wells, oil and gas production facilities, and gas storage wells in the state.
