The Oil Conservation Division of the New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department regulates oil, gas and geothermal activity in the state. They gather well production data; permit new wells; enforce the division’s rules and the state’s oil and gas statutes; make sure certain abandoned wells are properly plugged; and ensure the land is properly restored.
